Shocking video of 100-year-old MUMMY of a little girl ‘BLINKING’ eyes inside the coffin
One of the world’s best-preserved mummies seems to be blinking her eyes as she lies inside her coffin. Sound eerie? A curator said that it is actually just an illusion … or is it?!
In Capuchin Catacombs in Sicily, Italy lies an Italian girl named Rosalia Lombardo. She is one of 8,000 mummies in the catacombs in the Capuchin convent.
The little girl died in 1920 at the age of 2 from pneumonia, according to research. Her grieving father, Mario Lombardo, approached a famous Sicilian embalmer, Alfredo Salafia and requested him to preserve her body. Amazingly, her body is still intact after 100 years.
Not much is known about the girl, but many have named her, the “Sleeping Beauty,” as she is so well preserved. She lies in a coffin with her head poking above the blanket, with a ribbon still tied in her hair.
Though she was mummified, she did not completely close her eyes and many people have said that sometimes she appears to blink.
According to Discovery, a curator of the Capuchin Catacombs, Dario Piombino-Mascali explained in a statement that this is actually an illusion. “It’s an optical illusion produced by the light that filters through the side windows, which during the day is subject to change,” he said.
He said that the mummy was moved slightly and shifted to a horizontal position. He added that the eyes “are not completely closed, and indeed they have never been.”
In 2009, Piombino-Mascali learned exactly how the little girl had been preserved so well. He found a handwritten document by Salafia that listed the ingredients used to preserve the body: “One part glycerin, one part formalin saturated with both zinc sulfate and chloride, and one part of an alcohol solution saturated with salicylic acid,” it read.
Salafia had used formalin to kill bacteria, alcohol to dry the body, glycerin to prevent over-drying, zinc salts provide rigidity, and salicylic acid to kill fungi.
So, let us ask you: do you feel this is just some trick of the light as the curator says? Or do you feel this is some cosmic or spiritual phenomenon, which somehow animates the dead? Please share your own thoughts and comments and let everyone know!
